CVS pharmacists are here to help you look for savings

Written between photos of pharmacists Alexandra and Edwin is the video title. Here’s how CVS pharmacists can help patients save money.

[On The Beat by CVS]

[Did you know CVS® pharmacists can help you explore ways to save?]

[*Savings vary. Not all patients are eligible for savings. Ask a pharmacist for details.]

Who likes savings?

I love savings.

Our patients love when we’re able to save them money.

[CVS pharmacists have multiple ways to help you save.]

Sometimes our patients are concerned about cost.

And CVS pharmacists have a number of different ways we can help you save money.

One of them could be recommending a generic alternative to their expensive brand medication.

Bubble: [We can check with your prescriber to see if there may be a less expensive generic medication or therapeutic alternative.]

In some cases where insurance does not cover prescriptions, we do have other options.

Bubble: [We use savings tools that can help you save money and time.]

We like to take the time out to use our savings tool to help save you money and save you time.

I recently had a patient who had new insurance, and the medication they had been on for years was suddenly a lot more expensive. Though it took me no time at all to go check the computer, it saved them a lot of money, and they were really excited they didn’t have to change the medication that had been working so well for them. Maybe it’s a high-cost brand medication?

[*Savings programs are only for certain drugs and not every patient is eligible.]

Bubble: [We can help you sign up for a manufacturer savings card.]

We can help you get signed up through the manufacturer for a manufacturer savings card. I’ve definitely had some very happy patients when it only just takes us a couple of minutes to get them signed up for a savings program that brings their cost way down.

Pharmacists do a lot, particularly at CVS behind the scenes.

Bubble: [CVS pharmacists take pride in helping remove barriers like cost.]

I know we all take a lot of pride in removing barriers for people accessing their medication, and I think a lot of customers and patients would be really surprised with how diligent pharmacists are at delivering that low cost and how much goes into it.

The average patient might not know that these cost-saving things are available to them, and that’s the difference between someone walking out the door with life-saving medication or going home because they can’t afford it. It’s either their medicine or dinner. Yeah. So I think that it’s really a huge, huge impact.

[CVS pharmacists are happy to help you.]

Just the other day I had a patient come by the pharmacy, and they had just lost her insurance. And I was so proud to work at CVS because it gave me an opportunity to be able to find them the best price.

I’ve seen patients cry. Some patients have brought me cookies before.

FAQs

At CVS Pharmacy, we’re committed to helping you navigate your prescription savings options. Our pharmacy teams can help you review available options, including your insurance benefits, manufacturer savings programs and lower-cost alternatives such as generic medications when appropriate. We’re here to help you better understand your choices and identify opportunities to save on your prescriptions.

You may be able to save on prescriptions in several ways, including:

  • Applying manufacturer coupons
  • Using a third-party discount card
  • Choosing generic or alternative medications
  • Filling a 90-day supply when eligible

A 90-day supply can often cost less per dose than filling your prescription monthly, especially when your insurance offers cost savings for extended supplies. It can also save you time with fewer trips to the pharmacy.

However, pricing can vary based on your plan, medication and available discounts — so we recommend checking your plan.

There are several ways to see if there are savings on your prescription medication. You can search for available third-party coupons and discounts online, check manufacturer savings programs for eligible brand-name medications, or ask your CVS Pharmacy® team to help identify available savings options.

Before you fill your prescription, it’s worth checking for available discounts because savings opportunities can vary by medication and may change over time.

Third-party discount cards are discount programs that may lower the out-of-pocket cost of many medications, third-party discount cards cannot be used in conjunction with insurance benefits.

Manufacturer coupons are offered by drug manufacturers and are typically available for certain brand-name medications. Coupons usually have eligibility requirements and can only be used if you qualify.

Details about specific coupons can be found on the manufacturer’s website.

Using a third-discount card or manufacturer coupon is easy. Simply present the card or coupon — either on your phone or as a printed copy — to the pharmacy team when you drop off or pick up your prescription.

If you have insurance, your pharmacist can help compare the third-party discount card or manufacturer coupon price with your insurance price so you can choose the option that offers the greatest savings.

It depends on the type of savings program. Third-party discount cards, including TrumpRx, cannot be combined with insurance. However, some manufacturer coupons may be used alongside insurance. Your pharmacy team can help determine which options are available and may provide the most savings.

Yes — third-party prescription coupons from trusted sources like GoodRx, RxCompare, TrumpRx and other well-known savings programs are safe to use at the pharmacy.

If you’re unsure about a coupon, our pharmacy team can help review it and make sure it’s valid before applying it to your prescription.

Prescription prices can change for many reasons, including changes to your insurance coverage, deductibles resetting or manufacturer discounts ending.

That’s why we recommend checking your price in the CVS Health® app before pickup and asking your pharmacy team to review available savings.

Yes. Savings opportunities can change over time based on factors like your insurance coverage, manufacturer savings programs and available third-party discounts. That’s why it’s a good idea to review your options each time you fill your prescription. Your CVS Pharmacy® team can help identify available savings opportunities.

Yes — when available, you can view estimated prescription costs in the CVS Health® app or online before pickup.

Seeing your price early can help you plan ahead and explore savings options before you get to the pharmacy.

TrumpRx is a federal program that helps you find discounted, self-pay prices on select brand-name and generic prescriptions. You can search the eligible medication list on TrumpRx.gov to see available discounts, print or add a discount card to your digital wallet or follow the steps provided by the manufacturer.

Once you have your discount card, bring it to any CVS Pharmacy® location, and our pharmacists will apply eligible savings at the counter and answer any questions you may have about your prescription.

TrumpRx launched on February 5, 2026, and expanded to include select generic medications on May 18, 2026.

The program is designed for self-paying customers, including those without insurance or those whose plans don’t cover certain medicines. At this time, TrumpRx pricing can’t be combined with insurance, and purchases don’t contribute toward insurance deductibles.

CVS Pharmacy® accepts TrumpRx discount cards at all of our 9,000+ locations nationwide. We’re here to help you understand your eligibility and make the most of available savings.

TrumpRx currently provides access to discounted pricing on select brand-name and generic medications, including GLP-1 medications and treatments for weight management, diabetes, asthma, fertility and other conditions. The list of eligible drugs continues to expand and may vary between brand-name and generic offerings.

If your medication is included, CVS Pharmacy® can apply the eligible TrumpRx discount when you fill your prescription with us.

Yes. TrumpRx now includes discounts on select brand-name and generic medications.

If you’d like to explore other savings opportunities, our pharmacists are here to help you compare options and find what works best for your health and your budget.
