Are Orthotics FSA Eligible?

Orthotics, orthopedic shoes and inserts, are most often used to treat leg, foot, and back problems by supporting proper alignment. Since orthotics are intended to treat or prevent discomfort caused by a medical condition, orthotic inserts are FSA (flexible spending account) eligible. But it hasn't always been that way. There was a time you needed a letter of medical necessity (LMN) from your health care provider to use FSA funds for orthotics. That changed under the terms of the CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) Act. Today, you can use your FSA, HSA (health savings account), or HRA (health reimbursement arrangement) to purchase orthotic insoles and other medical expenses. However, orthotics are not dependent care flexible spending account (DCFSA) eligible. If you have questions or concerns about OTC (over-the-counter) shoe insert eligibility, consult your FSA plan administrator.

Is Foot Cream FSA Eligible?

When you shop at your neighborhood CVS Pharmacy®, you'll find many foot care items, including FSA/HSA eligible foot cream. However, not all foot care products qualify for FSA/HSA reimbursement. Like other over-the-counter personal care products, your foot cream must contain at least one ingredient that helps treat a medical condition. Foot creams used for cosmetic purposes only are ineligible. But if you're purchasing a foot cream made with ingredients shown to help combat athletes' foot, nail fungus, or similar discomfort, your purchase is likely eligible. You can also use FSA funds to pay for medicated foot powder, corn and callus removers, arch support sleeves, and physical therapy deductibles. Over-the-counter products to prevent or treat blisters, bunions, ingrown toenails, and lingering pain also qualify. Shopping for your foot care needs at CVS is a great way to take full advantage of your FSA dollars before they expire.
